I'm just not doing kernel work anymore. In fact, I recently replaced my pretty red laptop with a new 17" macbook pro. (With all the trimmings, or at least most of the trimmings.) I've considered putting Linux on it, but actually OSX is working fine for what I do. (Ok, I should say that OSX plus a ton of addin software, hacks, patches and so forth.. but still, OSX at it's core. And macports has come a long way..)
Site news
We're BACK
As you can probably tell, we're up again. We were down, but now we are up. And I've got a ton of other news and such But first, I have to get my other sites up too, so it'll have to wait. Teaser: n800, gps, and water.
New layout, features
So.. as you probably noticed, I updated the CMS. Yay. No more security holes, new layout, etc. (The old theme is not available for the new version. Such is life.) I also added trackback URLs, just for amusement.
Also, there are more free GratisInternet offers on the right; currently I'm working the Ipod shuffle (3 people) and the minimac (10 people). And it looks like everyone got 50 gmail invites, so those are pretty much worthless these days.
I'll be on vacation for a while (getting married) so don't expect any real updates until I get back. Might be doing some swsusp hacking while I'm gone, depends on the state of net access in Jamaica and whether I'm allowed to use my laptop or not..
Linux On Power contest Final Post; General Project News
Last post about this, I promise. I'll get back to coding now. Got a response from the contest administrators which basically said "tough luck." Not sure if its legal to downgrade the prizes by 20%, but whatever. (I wonder if the $1000 winners got $800 instead..) FWIW I'm not gonna be running YDL on it anytime soon (drive too small, ram -way- too small, irritation level too high, etc) so MoL/OOS porting will have to wait. Which means (drumroll) I'll likely be going back to doing work with swsusp. Yay!
(Read more for other details)
New site layout (again)
And .. well.. I couldn't be bothered to go through (by hand mind you) and update all the forum posts. There weren't that many anyway. Everything else carried over (yay conversion scripts).
If your account doesn't work, mail me on my gmail account (dc.disconnect) and I'll see if I can get it fixed.
Still working, here's a link to keep you entertained
First, the link. SendThemBack has some advice on how to return stolen mp3s to the RIAA. I highly recommend option 4, especially if you have a faxmodem handy.
Read on for the status of test3..
Dis8 started
Just a side note, I'm currently doing the first test build of dis8, based off 2.4.22.
- ACPI updated
- Bootsplash
- Win4Lin support
- Laptop-Mode
- Preempt
- Software suspend 2.0-rc2
Now is the last chance to comment on things you want to see. Read on for what I'm planning to add..
Boom
Site was down until I got home yesterday. Openbsd firewall blew up yet again. (I'm suspecting its something to do with the hardware, since those same basic configs work great everywhere else..)
/bsd: arpresolve: can't allocate llinfo .. lots of fun. (Required a reboot to fix it..)
Hopefully very soon I'll have time to rebuild one of the other boxes to be a firewall - 99.9% of my downtime is because of this stupid thing crashing.
Redirect started
The old site is still available here but for all intents and purposes we're pretty much moved.
Dis8 still holding..
It still won't resume, and I've put it on hold to get some other things straightened out. (Freevo back on my server, joining the BVFD etc..)
I'm going to try 2.6, probably get annoyed with it, and then get the energy to go back and redo the 2.4 patches.
