I know everyone wants to upgrade/trade/switch from the T-mobile G1 to the Android Development (Phone/Platform) 1. Well, I've got some news for you..
Allow me a brief moment of digression. You may (or may not) know that the Geo car brand was actually made by Isuzu, Daewoo, Daihatsu and Suzuki, completely independent of GM itself. (Some of you will already know where I am going with this..)
Despite that fact, you couldn't exactly take your Geo Metro into a Suzuki dealership and expect warranty coverage. (If for no other reason than the fact that you gave your money to GM, not Suzuki, Isuzu etc. Its just not their problem, even though they had a hand in it's creation.) The car was designed by GM, built by Suzuki and sold by Geo (a GM brand.)
How does an extinct, somewhat odd car brand relate to the G1? Well...... here's the thing. The G1 is a hardware platform made by HTC for T-mobile and Google (with different software loads.) When you get it from T-mobile, with their respective requirements and pricing, you get a T-mobile G1. Doesn't matter who made it, doesn't matter that it got rebranded by Google as well. You got a T-mobile G1 and it has T-mobile's software, warranty and policies.
It doesn't matter in the slightest that Google has rebranded it. If you want the Google version, you need to buy it from Google. (Or upgrade your bootloader of course.) Cuz you won't get it from T-mobile.
