Courtesy dream_kill (who got a unit with an engineering bootloader as a warranty replacement - way to go Tmob, give it to a hacker..), cmonex and JesusFreke, we now have an engineering bootloader reflasher in the wild. All it takes is root (sorry guys, still no RC30 hacks.) Want to get it too? (Updated Version!)

UPDATE: No, let me reiterate for those who didn't read the above. This is NOT leaked from a dev unit. It is not a prerelease dev unit. It has NOTHING TO DO WITH DEV PHONES. It is the "engineering bootloader" that Google and Tmob engineers had before the G1 was released. It DOES give the same capabilities as a dev phone though. (Except the sim-unlock.)

Modified update: It has something to do with dev phones. :) We didn't GET it from the ADP1, but it has been compared to the one that they have and it is IDENTICAL. (Well.. it was identical before the signature check was removed by cmonex and dream_kill.) So yes, it makes your phone like an ADP1 but no, we didn't steal one early or anything - this was a legitimate independent hack by cmonex and dream_kill and company. :)

All you need is to apply the attached update.zip (courtesy JesusFreke) to an already-hacked G1. Thats it. (It is signed with the test keys, so if you have JF's rc30 it will Just Work.) But first.. a

BIG HUGE BOLD BLINKING FREAKING WARNING:

If this goes wrong, you WILL DESTROY YOUR PHONE. Seriously. It will go PTHHTHTH. So don't interrupt it, don't let the battery die, etc.

Once its installed, boot with power+camera to see the Androids on Skateboards instead of the simple tri-color boot loader. (Where to go from there is the subject of a future post.)
