Cupcake on G1/ADP1 (Sorry Ttuttle)

So cupcake is out and everyone is dying to know how it works. (Except ttuttle, who spent all of yesterday bragging about his copy..) Well, if you want to find out (or just read about it) you are in the right place.
(Update: at 4pm PST today, JBQ and company finished merging cupcake with the master git repos.)

The long and short of it is that the build is still broken, but you can pull the broken bits from a G1/ADP1. (See the build directions tomorrow.) Once its booted, you'll find that some bits don't work:

  • The phone doesn't work (rild is one of the things you steal from the old image.)
  • Wireless doesn't work either.
  • Sound doesn't work - libaudio is from the old image.
  • Camera is .. funky. Yep, libcamera.
  • Google apps are all missing. Well... duh. But that means no sync, either.
  • Onscreen keyboard. (Wait.. onscreen keyboard? Yep.) Its tied to 'menu' evidently, but .. not so good. Just force-closes.

OK so that is a depressing list. BUT.. what did work?

  • Cupcake. Seriously people, this is the cool bit :)
  • Picture taking - it was faster (yay!) although the orientation was off and the preview is black and white.
  • New SIM unlock screen. I don't like it, but its new and it works.

Not sure if I missed anything, it was pretty thoroughly fail. But it is bleeding-edge pre-alpha live development code. (Plus a semi-random mix of old libraries..) So personally, I think its great. And in the next couple days it should get much better, as the broken/non-building libraries are fixed.

If you really really want my images post in the comments and if there is demand I'll host them. But no crying when its broken :) And be sure to take a backup first...
