The new Android Developer Phone is out, and I'm sure everyone wants all the details they can get their hands on.
In the Box

The box that the ADP1 comes in is the same box that G1s come in, except that it is totally blank, other than the label with the IMEI, serial and such info. Boring.

What is in the box
- the phone. It had better be in there!
- 1150 mah battery
- headphone/microphone that works with the proprietary HTC jack. This appears to be the same one that comes with the G1.
- USB cable
- USA spec wall charger
- 1 page "getting started" insert
- 1 page warranty card/insert
What is not in the box
- a sleeve/case/protector. Nope, nothing to protect your precious baby from the very hostile environment that is your pocket.
- a 3.5 millimeter audio adapter. You're on your own for this one.
- a manual. You don't need a stinkin' manual, you're a developer!
- a pony
Hardware
As far as specs and hardware go, the ADP1 is exactly like a G1. In fact I think the same guy who put my former G1 together put my ADP1 together. There's something about the way the screen slides that says "Assembler #83" all over it.
Physical Appearance

The phone is fairly similar in appearance to a black G1, although I think it's actually more of a gray color, somewhat lighter than the black G1. The back cover has the same rubbery feel as a black G1.
There are a few differences however. The most obvious is of course the unique design on the back cover, which will be the envy of many G1 owners :D. Additionally, there is no t-mobile branding cluttering up the front of the device. Finally, the keyboard backplate is a nice glossy black with matte black keys, instead of the matte backplate with glossy keys on the standard black G1. The letters on the keyboard are visible in most any kind of light.

Included Applications

The set of applications that are included on the ADP1 out of the box are similar to the set of apps provided on the UK version of the G1. In particular, it's missing such goodies as the Voice Dialer, the Amazon MP3 store, and the MyFaves software. Additionally only the gtalk provider is supported in the IM app.
Here is the full list of apps:
Alarm Clock
Browser
Calculator
Calendar
Camera
Contacts
Dialer
Email
Gmail
IM
Maps
Market
Messaging
Music
Pictures
Settings
YouTube
Additionally, the "su" program is available on the phone for easy root access. Note however, that ro.secure is set to 1, which means that adb doesn't run with root access, so things like "adb remount" won't work.
Unlocked?
The ADP1 is much more open out of the box than the G1. The recovery image uses the same test keys that modding community has already been using for custom updates.
The bootloader is the same as the engineering bootloader that was recently dumped from dream_kill's phone and released. The version number is 95.3000, and has the white screen with the 3 skateboarding androids at the bottom. The 2 main things to note about this bootloader are that it does not accept unsigned nbh files, and that it does support the FASTBOOT protocol, which allows flashing of unsigned partition images.
And of course the phone is sim unlocked out of the box as well.
